Mikayla Dawn "Kayla" Sotherland, 20, of Columbus (previously from Wellington, Oh) passed away on October 27, 2018. Born on October 7, 1998, she was the daughter of Deanna and Greg Sotherland and David Peters and Michele Nethers. She was born in Fairborn Ohio and was a 2017 graduate of Black River High School.
Kayla developed a passion for adventure and traveled at a young age. She enjoyed Chicago, Jamestown, and multiple Ohio cities for gymnastics competitions. In her short 20 years of life she traveled France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain. Paris and Amalfi Coast being her favorites. She explored New York, California, Florida and many other states and always wanted to live in Florida. Her passion for travel and seeing the world never faded. Kayla earned her first set of wings at the International Air and Hospitality Academy after high school and had dreams of becoming a flight attendant. While in school she was a member of FCCLA, 4-H, played soccer, trained in Hapkido, and was a student athletic trainer. Kayla enjoyed horses and although she rarely saw a sunrise, she loved sunsets. She enjoyed 4 wheeling, going on boat rides, and one of her favorite places was the beach. She truly enjoyed relaxing, spending time with family, friends, and she treasured making memories.
Kayla is survived by her parents Deanna and Greg Sotherland, and David Peters and Michele Nethers; siblings Jacob, Andrew(Casey), Hayley, Tommy, and Alex Sotherland. Angelea Wright and Alaina Wright. Destiny Waldron, Brianna Nethers, Carter Nethers, Devon Peters. Grandparents Belinda Cool, Richard and Jody Sotherland, Pat and Judith Marshall, Herbert Peters, Michael and Rita Draudt, Michael Chapman, Earlene Carter, and Camden Cogar. Her aunts, uncles, and cousins; James Peters, Danielle and Ryan (Bradlee & Kameron Griffin), Brian Niklos, Carl and Lindsay Sotherland (Lucas & Maddy), Adam Sotherland, Gail and Chris Bates, and many more family and friends who will always treasure the memories they have with her.
