Molly Downey Obituary

Norwalk, Ohio - Molly Anne (Price) Downey, 75, passed away July 3, 2022, in a place she loved, her ancestral home on West Main Street, in Norwalk, Ohio.  She was born February 8, 1947, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to the late Anne (Fulstow) and Robert Cleaveland Price.  Molly graduated from Norwalk High School in 1965, and attended Sullins Junior College in Bristol, Virginia, before studying Art and Interior Design at the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA.

Molly loved to paint, ride her horse “Kacy”, being outdoors, enjoying nature, and the tranquility and peacefulness of winter.  She could be described as a private person, but her love for her family, and friends, was certain and unmistakable.  Stoic in the face of her health issues, Molly embraced them courageously with the same vigor and spirit she applied to all of her life.  She was full of kindness, wisdom, and advice, often providing encouragement to others to cherish life and embrace their dreams.  Molly was a wonderful cook, who loved to garden, and could do anything around the home.  She cherished time spent at the family ranch in Wyoming.

A “cradle Episcopalian”, Molly was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Norwalk, Ohio, where she and her loving husband Frederick Downey, were married in 1976.  She was a former Girl Scout, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the former Drifters 4H Riding Club at the Huron County fairgrounds.

Molly is survived by her loving husband, and companion of 46 years, Fred Downey, of Norwalk, Ohio; by her daughter, Anne Downey (Wyatt) Buckland, of Jackson, Wyoming; by her son, Stewart Fish (Katherine Hipp) Downey, of Norwalk, Ohio; by grandsons, Colter Wyatt Buckland, and John aka “Jack” Gardiner Hipp Downey; by her sister, Susan (Jan) Blake of Norwalk, Ohio; and by her mother in-law, Geraldine Fish Downey of Vero Beach, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anne (Fulstow) and Robert Cleaveland Price, by her sister and brother in-law, Patricia and Bradley Baker, and by her father in-law, Daniel Granville Downey.

The Downey family would like to thank the caregivers and first responders for their kindness to our family.

A gathering to honor and celebrate Molly’s life and legacy is being planned for family and friends at a later date.  Inurnment will take place in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Firelands Historical Society, Building Fund, 4 Case Ave., Norwalk, Ohio 44857, or to Woodlawn Cemetery, Tree Fund, 200 Woodlawn Ave., Norwalk, Ohio 44857.  Online expressions of sympathy to the family may be made by visiting www.walkereastmanheydingerfh.com
