Nathan Lee Adkins, 39, of Shelby, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, from complications of a chronic illness. Born on October 31, 1982, he was the son of Gary and Joyce Arlene (nee Hicks) Adkins. Nathan grew up in Shelby and was a member of the graduating class of 2000.
Nathan was a master of the culinary arts, working in numerous restaurants, from fine dining to dive, and in any capacity from a line cook to management. He had a true talent in the kitchen and could make just about anything taste good. Nathan enjoyed spending quiet time tinkering with electronics, fishing, or singing along to his music. He also liked to spend time outdoors with friends and family around a campfire. Around town he was affectionately known as the guy in the hat for the fedoras he liked to wear. Nathan was also a skilled bowler. He was a member of the Greenwich First Baptist church, where his father, Gary, is the pastor.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Joyce Arlene Adkins; sister, Jessica (Jason) Vanasdale; nieces Emily, Hannah, Laura, Molly, Isadora, and Georgia; his best friend who was like a brother, Mike Goodman; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, June 29, at the Greenwich First Baptist church, 96 Townsend Rd, Greenwich, from 3-7 p.m. and again on Thursday, from 11 until the time of services beginning at 12 p.m. Rev.
