Norman Earl Saxton, 78, of Norwalk, died Sunday, July 18, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. Born on August 20, 1942, in Norwalk, Norman was a son of the late Louis and Doris (nee Arnold) Saxton. He proudly served his country in the Army. Norman worked at General Motors for many years, retiring from the transmission department. He was a member of the 7th Street Freewill Baptist Church and the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church, both in Michigan.
Norman will be fondly remembered as a great, quiet man who loved bowling and softball. He enjoyed cheering for the University of Michigan, the Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame. A true lover of sports, Norman could often be found at Baines Park playing softball and watching games. He treasured time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Lois (Nickoli) Saxton; children, David (Jenny) Saxton, of Lansing, MI, Mary Saxton, of Norwalk, Patti (Matt) Konapka, of Westland, MI, Jeff (Patti) Nickoli, of Norwalk, Vicki (Jim) Hager, of Norwalk and Tim (Tami) Nickoli, of Norwalk; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Norman is also survived by his sister, Janie Goley, of KY; numerous cousins and his good friend and softball/bowling partner, George Benavides. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy O’Neil; son, Christopher Doyle; grandson, Nicholas Hager and great grandson, Dominic Goines.
Visitation will be Friday, July 23 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk with Chaplain David Detwiler officiating. A burial with military rites will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville at a later date. Donations in memory of Norman can be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
