Patricia Rose (nee Derby) Adkins, 86, formerly of Oberlin, died Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Good Shephard Home in Ashland. Born on September 18, 1936 in Pine Grove, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Audrey (nee Streets) Derby Sr. She spent her childhood in West Virginia before moving to Oberlin in 1955.
Patricia worked as an Au Pair for the Pritzker family from 1955 to 1963, moving with them to Chicago. In 1963 she moved back to Oberlin where she married and raised her family. Patricia was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Elyria. She enjoyed reading, especially her bible. Patricia also enjoyed word searches, and making sure everyone’s clothes were well pressed. Most of all Patricia cherished time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Edward (Susan) Adkins Jr, of Vermilion, Gene (Daisy) Adkins, of Sheffield Village, Anthony (Kim) Adkins, of Chennai, South Korea, Toby Adkins, Elyria, and Karen Wright, of Ashland; 8 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings Peggy Dulaney, Claude Derby Jr, Norman Derby, Marlene Barr, Mary Brill, David Derby, and Linda Fike. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Edward Sr; son Timothy Adkins; and sisters Karen Corrigan and Janice Carver.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday May 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington, where services will be held on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
