Paul Gross Obituary

Paul J. Gross, 91, of Monroeville, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at home.  He was born on March 25, 1929 in Norwalk to the late Agnes M. (Schaffer) and Joseph C. Gross.  He was a 1947 graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School and had attended Xavier University.  He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church. 

Paul was an avid gardener who loved his hometown of Norwalk, Ohio.  He attended all Norwalk St. Paul football games and enjoyed following all local sports teams.  Paul cherished time with his family and his outgoing, and friendly nature helped him earn many lifelong friends.    

He worked for the former A.J. Baltes Construction Company for many years as a clerk.  Paul had also worked for the Huron County Highway Department. 

Paul served his country as part of the United States Army’s 8th Calvary Regiment during the Korean War. 

He was a former member of the Norwalk Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of V.F.W. Post #2743.  

Survivors include his children, Gary (Linda) Gross of Lorain, OH; their children, Matthew and Rachel Gross; son, Daniel (Julie) Gross of Kettering, OH; their children, William, David, Andrew and Marie Gross; daughter, Nancy (Jim) Wilson of Westerville, OH; their son, Chase Wilson; daughter, Tricia (Jim) Racher of Upper Arlington, OH; their children, Elizabeth, Molly, Meredith and Jimmy Racher; son, Thomas (Rubiela) Gross of Norwalk, OH; their children, Michael Cawley, Mitchell (Jocelyn), Jesse, Derek, Ryan, Isabel and Rafael Gross; daughter, Virginia (Jeffry) Zimovan of Dublin, OH; their children, Nathan, Brendan and Caroline Zimovan; siblings, Phyllis (Lyle) Rhoad of Norwalk, OH and Geraldine Schneider of Valrico FL; sister in-law, Delores (Brian) Colahan of Milan, OH; brother in-law, Virgil Falter of Tiffin, OH.  Paul is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years, Patricia Marie (Widman) Gross in 1987; daughter, Susan Marie Gross; grandchildren, James Charles Wilson III, Bradley Andrew Wilson and Dominic Wilson; siblings, Raymond Gross, Mary McLaughlin, Charles Gross, Norbert Gross and Bernard Gross. 

A time of private family visitation and prayer will be held followed by a public funeral Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.  Masks and social distancing and COVID-19 guidelines will be observed in the church.  A burial will follow the mass in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.  Msgr. Ken Morman will officiate the funeral Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Senior Enrichment Services, “Meals on Wheels Program”, 130 Shady Lane Drive, Norwalk, OH 44857 or Bradley’s House of Hope (named after Paul’s grandson), 51 N.
