Richard Harold Fehlan, 84, of Wellington, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange. Born on August 13, 1937 in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Michael and Marie (née Renke) Fehlan. Richard lived most of his life in Brighton Township and graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelors degree in economics. Following graduation, he served in the United States Coast Guard.
Richard worked over 40 years in the banking industry, retiring in the late 90’s. He was the Senior Vice President of Huntington Bank. For his work as a banker, he was awarded the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodore, which is the highest award given to a citizen for their contribution to the development of the state. Richard was appointed to the Ohio Asia Trade Mission. He also worked as a farmer and was an avid fisherman. Baptized and confirmed as a youth at Grace Lutheran Church in Oberlin, he considered that church home.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Teresa L (nee Lane) Fehlan; daughters, Susan (Ken) Laposky, Patricia (Kevin) Fehlan Robertson, and Jennifer (David) Fehlan-Jones, all of Wellington; grandchildren Nick, Jill, David, Reilly, and Carter; and a brother, Raymond Fehlan. Richard was preceded in death by his brother Michael Fehlan.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 beginning at 10:00 am with Pastor Josh Moldenhauer officiating at Grace Lutheran Church, Oberlin 310 W. Lorain St, Oberlin, 44074.
