Richard LeRoy Herrick, 77, of Wellington, died on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Mercy Health Hospital in Lorain. He was born on July 17, 1943 in Fremont to the late Rolland and Emma (nee Lander) Herrick. He was a 1963 Wellington High School graduate.
Richard proudly served our country in the US Army, from 1965-1967, and serving during Vietnam. He also served in the National Guard in Ashland from 1979-1986 and went on to work at Ohio Body for 11 years, Wedge Wire for 25 years, Cleveland City Forge and later retired from Shiloh Industries. Richard also served as an EMT in Sullivan, becoming assistant and fire chief. He was a lifetime member of American Legion, VFW of Ashland, AMVETS Post 32, Wellington Eagles and DAV Chapter 21 in Mansfield. He also attended Sullivan Congregational Church. Richard loved to travel, especially to Florida and had a passion for helping others. He also played the role of Santa for 25 years bringing lots of joy to children.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara (nee Bryan) Herrick and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne Herrick, Gwen Metcalf, Dale Herrick and Linda Keith.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Sullivan Southview Cemetery in Sullivan. Family and friends are invited for a celebration of life held in his honor on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Sullivan First Congregational Church, 503 US 224 Sullivan, OH 44880.
