Obituary

Richard A. Thornton, 79, of Willard, died on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at his home with his wife Sue by his side.  He was born on June 14, 1944, in Detroit, MI, the son of the late George and Marian (Simpson) Thornton. 

Richard proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy.  Richard held numerous jobs throughout his life, but he always found himself in the driver’s seat of a semi, usually transporting new cars out of Detroit and Marysville.  He was a member of the American Legion Riders; he loved riding his motorcycle and 3-wheeler.  He enjoyed woodworking. 

Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sue (Stewart) Thornton; children, Kim (Richard) Brier of MI, Richard (Ann Marie) Thornton Jr., of Plymouth, Randy Reynolds (Carol) of MI, Scott Thornton of MI and Dean (Lori) Thornton of Shelby; 17 grandchildren, including granddaughter, Rachel Thornton, who Richard and Sue helped raise; and many great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Maria) Thornton of MI; Sister, Marian (David) Rodriguez of CO; sister in law, Nikki Thornton of MI,  and several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.  In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, George Thornton.
