Robert C. Herold

Robert C. Herold of New London, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 in Stein Hospice Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born to the late Carl and Irene (Lockwood) Herold on June 16, 1932 in Columbia Station Township, Ohio. He moved to the New London area in the late 1940’s, where he spent the remainder of his life. Robert helped his father on the family farm and he served in the United States Army. He worked as a foreman of the axel department for 25 years at The Ohio Body, New London, Ohio, where they built semi-trailers. Robert was also employed at Norwalk Implement as a mechanic as well as R&L Transfer, he mowed lawn for the Norwalk Airport and retired from Lake Erie Construction. He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711, and the Norwalk American Legion, Post 41. Robert enjoyed mowing lawn and being outdoors, league bowling and bowling for fun, deer hunting listening to country music and dancing with his wife, Helen, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen E. (Hite) Herold of New London, Ohio, by his son, Robert L. Herold of New London, by his 3 grandchildren, Joseph D. Albright of New Springfield, Ohio, Janet I. (Samuel) Brauen, of Bluffton, Ohio, and Robert J. Herold of Eugene, Oregon, by 8 great grandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Miriam I. Hawk in 2014 and by his siblings, Willard and Earl Herold. Friends may call on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio 44857 where services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Matt Vangorden will officiate, Interment will follow in Hartland Ridge Cemetery.
