Robert Jones, 76, of New Haven, died Sunday April 10, 2022 at the Country Meadows. Born on May 15, 1945 in Greenwich, he was the son of the late Allie Robert and Zada (née Gilliam) Jones. Robert Grew up and spent most of his life in the New Haven area, where he was the self proclaimed Mayor of New Haven.
Robert retired from the B&O Railroad in 1984, a job he began before being drafted into the Army in 1966, serving in Vietnam. Robert enjoyed politics and was an active life-long member of the Democratic Party. He was involved with disabled veterans organizations as well as the Boy Scouts. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Browns and Notre Dame. Robert also enjoyed pond fishing and his morning trips to McDonalds for coffee with friends. Most of all he cherished time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Todd (Nicole) Jones, of Willard, Shaara Jones, of Plymouth, and Jason (Amy) Jones, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Callie, Katlynn, Jacob, Tyler, Sheyann, Addison, Griffin; great-grandchildren, Leah, Karter, and Link. Robert was preceded in death by his siblings Imogene Wright, Donald Jones, Thurman Jones, Olray Jones, Emmitt Jones, Corinne Oney, C.L. Jones, Ruth Jones, and Danny Jones.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, April 15, from 10 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 12 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main, Greenwich. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
