Sam Battista, 82, a lifelong resident of Wellington, died Monday, February 8, 2021 at home. Born on August 25, 1938 in Wellington, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose (nee Naro) Battista.
Sam retired from Ridge Tool in Elyria after 42 years. He was a member of the Wellington Eagles and the VFW. Sam enjoyed antique cars, feeding and watching birds, tending to his lawn, and shooting pool. He will be remembered for his love of entertaining friends and family, and for his use of the phrase “come on over”.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane (nee Siddall) Battista; daughters Julie (Bill) Schramm, of Wellington, and Jill (Jeff) Biltz, of Valley City; grandchildren William (Beth) Schramm, Katie (Nick) Stefanski, and Amy Rader; and great grandchildren Zachary, Tyler, and Gracie Jane. Sam was preceded in death by his children Shelly and Sammy; and sisters, Caroline Black and Mary Schindler.
A private burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, April 25, from 1-4 p.m. at the Wellington Eagles, 631 South Main St, Wellington, 44090.
