Sharon VanScoy Obituary

Sharon Marie VanScoy, 68, of Greenwich, went home to Heaven Friday, February 14, 2020. Born on December 21, 1951 in Norwalk, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Gertrude (nee Underwood) VanScoy.

Sharon attended South Central High School and later attended The Ohio State University, studying journalism and drug and alcohol counseling. She possessed a true entrepreneurial spirit. At one time she studied culinary arts and owned a restaurant in Delphi. Then went on to be a “Stringer” for the Norwalk Reflector and the Greenwich Shoppers Helper newspapers. Also having articles published in magazines including, County Woman. Writing was a passion for Sharon and she authored 4 books.  Taproot being her account of her history growing up in a country town. That book is at the Greenwich Museum.  Receiving an A - Award for her coverage of her story at the Plymouth Locomotive Strike. Sharon was passionate about helping others and will be remembered for the inspiration she offered through her words, both written and spoken. 

Sharon was a member of A.A. for 38 years. Attending area meetings and having them at her home on Thursday mornings. Sharon was forever grateful to the support group that helped her to discover and live a sober life. She could not praise enough of her Higher Power, God, who guided her steps. A faithful follower and worker of the 12 Steps that lead her to a new life of Hope, Reason, and Purpose. She believed so deeply in the group who believed so deeply in her.  A.A. became her Family. Please keep her in your Prayers and the Family she leaves behind. Sharon’s last Thoughts and Words to her A.A. Family..  It works, If you work it. Keep Coming Back. And Remember to include your Higher Power..

Survivors include her daughters Bethany VanScoy, of Greenwich; and Rebecca Hoag of Bucyrus,  grandchildren, Nathaniel Dendinger, and Harley Dyllon Belcher, great grand daughters Nevaeh and Kensli Belcher, Special Friends in Sister form Charolette Lacy, Marilyn Kaye, Rusti Stover and Dear friends Steve and Gail Bovia, Raymond Oney, and  sister-in-law Priscilla VanScoy; and numerous nieces and nephews including Mark and Yolanda VanScoy of WA . Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Gertrude VanScoy, brothers Ralph Clinton VanScoy and Vernon VanScoy, several Aunts and Uncles, Myron and Kaye VanScoy, Bill and Ida Estridge, Frank and Evelyn VanScoy, Fred and Illa VanScoy, Dale and Pauline (Underwood) Kellog, and several others.

Anyone wishing to express words of Sharon’s life and memories are welcome and appreciated.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, February 20, from 2 until the time of services beginning at 3 p.m. at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main Street, Greenwich, 44837.  Memorials if desired may be given to the family in care of the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed online at at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
