Sidney Wayne Geist

Sidney Wayne Geist, 69 of New London, Ohio passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on July 12, 2022 doing one of the things he loved, riding his motorcycle. 

He grew up in Rochester Township where he lived most of his life. Sid was a 1971 graduate of New London High School.  He attended Rio Grande College and then graduated from the Agricultural Technical Institute of Wooster The Ohio State University Branch. He worked at Farm Custom Service then Sunrise Cooperative for several years. Sid farmed several hundred acres and owned a septic tank cleaning business.  He retired in 2016 after 35 years of service from the Oberlin College Grounds Department.

Sid attended the New London Alliance Church where he had previously been a trustee and a deacon. He loved watching his kids and grandkids participate in sports. He also loved camping, fishing, being in the woods, riding his motorcycle and watching the Cleveland Indians.  Sid had a great sense of humor; his friends will remember him as a “fungi”. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Blanche Geist and his brother Otto Geist, Jr. He is survived by Gail, his wife of 46 years. His son Geoff (Sara) Geist, his daughters Amy (Dan) Novak, Shannon (Zack) McFarland, nine grandchildren; Braeden, Ethan, Jackson, Lydia, and Simon Geist, Brooke and Ben Novak, LeeAnna and Vinny McFarland; sister-in-laws, Sandy Geist, Wendy (Burshel) Kidd; brother-in-laws, Keith (Donna) Hall, Marvin (Cheryl) Hall and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at the New London Alliance Church, 4625 St. Rte 162, New London, where a celebration of life service will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to New London Alliance Church or Beulah Beach, 6101 West Lake Road, Vermilion, OH 44089.  Eastman Funeral Home assisted the family, online condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
