Vernon Harris

Vernon Harris (Bunky), 62, of New London, Ohio died suddenly on Tuesday, May 18 at his home.

Vernon Harris was born in New London, OH to the parents of Alice Viola Harris and (the late) Virgil Harris, Sr.  He graduated from New London High School in 1976.

Vernon was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Harris, Sr, brothers, Milton Harris, Timothy Harris and Dwight Harris.  He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, LaTasha Harris of Cleveland, Ohio, Kennedy Harris of Elyria, Ohio, step-daughter, Telyta Owens of Cleveland, Ohio; sons, Zachary Harris of Sandusky, Ohio, and step-son, Mario (Phoebe) Kirk of Lorain, Ohio; his beloved mother, Alice Harris of Ashland, ohio; siblings, George Harris and his wife Earlene, of Ashland, Ohio, Betty Brown of Oceanside, CA, Eddie Harris of Mansfield, Ohio, Dean Harris of Ashland, Ohio, Dale Harris of Sandusky, Ohio, and Virgil Harris, Jr. of Westerville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and great friends. 

Vernon worked for many years at Cedar Bay Construction of Huron, Ohio and other manufacturing companies in the area.  He was always known on all of his jobs as “the man that was never late for his job and very rarely, if ever, missed a day”.

Vernon was a member of the Second Baptist Church, New London where he served as a Deacon.  He was very passionate about his family and enjoyed spending time with them.  He loved being with his friends camping, barbequing, playing cards, watching the Dallas Cowboys, a good movie, and a good cold sasaparilla.

Visitation for Vernon will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London, Ohio from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. where his funeral service will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m.   Burial will follow at the Grove Street Cemetery, New London, Ohio.  Eastman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements, fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
