William F. "Bill" McClanahan Jr.

William F. “Bill” McClanahan Jr., 84, of New London went to be with his Lord, April 16, 2024, at the Laurels of New London surrounded by his family.  He was born January 17, 1940, in Pikeville, Ky to the late Goldie (Adkins) and William F. McClanahan Sr.  Bill served in the US Army and was an active member of the Church of Christ in New London.  Bill loved listening to gospel music and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards.  He took great pride in his garden and loved tending to his lawn, he was very generous with his produce where family and friends never left empty handed when stopping by to visit.  Bill was the true patriarch of his family, he was fun, loving and he cherished his family, especially his grandkids where he loved nothing more than being called Papaw.  He had a very giving soul with no expectations on anything in return. 

Bill was married March 25, 1967, to Dorothy “Dot” (Boyd) for a wonderful 57 years and survives.  He is also survived by his son, Bill (Melody) McClanahan of Willard, and 2 grandchildren, Hannah and Ian McClanahan.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Gifford, and all his siblings, Laura McClanahan (infant), Ella Boyd, Joe McClanahan, Cora McClanahan (infant), Arlin McClanahan, Clyde McClanahan (infant), James McClanahan, Myrtle Hinchman, Josphine McClanahan (infant), Marie Clapp, Thomas McClanahan, and Judith Akers.
