Windsor Wood Obituary

Windsor Douglas Wood, 81, died January 17, 2021.  He was born on September 22, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio to the now deceased Dorothy and Bourdette Wood.  He most recently resided in Oberlin a Welcome Nursing Home.  Windsor for most of his life lived in the Milan area and managed the family’s property known as Riverwood Farm.  He spent his formative years at Eagle Brook school of Deerfield, Massachusetts. 

Windsor’s true love was in Nova Scotia, Canada where his family had owned property in Saint Catherine Bay, which is now the Kejimkugik National Park Seaside.  This is where he met his lifelong friend Lovette Theirau.  The two had extensive travels together.  Windsor being a world traveler, visited South America, Europe, and the Falkland Islands where he encountered lifelong friendships and maintained correspondence throughout the years. 

Windsor’s hobbies included farming and logging, even using horses to do so.  He loved all animals, especially dogs.  He had a tender heart towards them.  Even in his state of dementia, he clung to his stuffed dog “Quinn”, that provided him comfort the last 2 ½ years.  Windsor also in the past raised prized Columbian sheep, being most proud of his grand champion “Buck” at the Ohio State Fair.  Windsor was always with camera wherever he went, making sure his friends received photos.  Windsor was an eloquent writer and always took the time to write in his Christmas cards.  Anyone that met him could not forget him.  He was most known for his Toyota trucks, in which he accumulated hundreds of thousands of miles.  Windsor will be dearly missed by the Baker family, where he was always included in family activities. 

Survivors include his brother, Thomas Wood of Alaska; 4 nieces; 1 nephew and his longtime friend and caregiver, Chris Baker. 

Windsor was preceded in death by his father in 1957; mother, in 1989; brothers, Robert in 1992 and Bourdette (Robin) in 2017.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk from 1 pm until the time of the 2 pm service.  Burial will follow the service in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk.  Visitors to the funeral home are reminded to bring and wear a mask and be prepared for the possibility of waiting outside once current reduced capacity limits are reached until other visitors exit allowing for more room for social distancing.  Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.walkereastmanheydingerfh.com
